When Will Supergirl Return With New Episodes?

Supergirl will be back with at least one new episode, but slightly later than anticipated. The CW superhero series had been slated for a March 26th return, but that return date has been pushed back a week. The latest news? Kara Danvers will fly back into our lives with a new ep on May 3rd at 9pm ET on The CW.

The episode is called “Deus Lex Machina,” and is the 17th of the season. As the title suggests, you can expect some Lex Luthor action in this one, and we’ll learn just what Lex was up to following the events of Crisis On Infinite Earths. The episode also happens to be star Melissa Benoist‘s directorial debut. Check out the full official synopsis below…

Lex proceeds to lay an intricate plan to bring Lena closer to him, defeat Leviathan’s latest attack, and pit Supergirl against Leviathan; how Lex came into power after Crisis is revealed.

Production on Supergirl Season 5 shut down in early March, so it’s unclear how many more episodes of the fifth season The CW has to broadcast—possibly no more following the airing of “Deus Lex Machina.” Other CW TV shows whose current seasons were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic include The Flash, Riverdale, Batwoman, and Supernatural. Legends of Tomorrow, which is currently airing its fifth season, had already wrapped production, so its current season should not be affected by the halt in production.

As we have already begun to notice, the narrowing of new TV content should hit first on broadcast television, which tends to being airing episodes of a TV series before the current season has finished filming. It is more common on cable and streaming services to film an entire season before any of it sees the light of day. This means that cablers like HBO or streamers like Netflix will likely have more content built up and be less affected by the halt in production… at least in the short term.
