Crisis on Infinite Earths is over. There is now one single main Arrowverse world, known as Earth-Prime. Oliver Queen is dead. But his legacy will live on in the form of his daughter, Mia, and the women who have worn the mantle of Black Canary through the years, Laurel Lance and Dinah Drake. As Oliver said during Crisis “there should always be a Green Arrow,” and he gave Mia the costume to make sure that happens.
Which brings us to Arrow season 8 episode 9, the penultimate episode of the series, with the appropriate title “Green Arrow and the Canaries.” This episode will take a brief detour, picking up the action in the future of 2040 rather than in the days and weeks following the momentous events of Crisis. It’s a standalone episode intended to function as a backdoor pilot for a potential Canaries-centric spinoff series (which, unfortunately, can’t be called Birds of Prey because of assorted reasons).
Here’s everything you need to know about what might turn out to be one of the most important episodes in Arrow history!
Green Arrow and the Canaries Story
Here’s the official synopsis:
“It’s the year 2040 in Star City and Mia Queen (Katherine McNamara) has everything she could have ever wanted. However, when Laurel (Katie Cassidy) and Dinah (Juliana Harkavy) suddenly show up in her life again, things take a shocking turn and her perfect world is upended. Laurel and Dinah are tracking a kidnapping victim with direct ties to Mia and they need her help. Knowing it will change everything, Mia can’t help but be a hero and she, Laurel, and Dinah suit up once again to save the city.”
It would appear then that should Green Arrow and the Canaries (or whatever the show ends up being called) gets picked up, the action will take place in 2040, rather than any timey-wimey stuff that might have kept Mia in our era. We wrote more about what to expect and what we want to see from the Canaries spinoff show here.
